(UPPER MARLBORO, Md. – February 14, 2017) Fifteen participants of the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County Problem Solving Courts will continue their journey to becoming productive citizens with renewed hope as they successfully complete their respective Problem Solving Court programs. The ceremony will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 1:30 p.m. in M2400. The Circuit Court is located at 14735 Main Street, Upper Marlboro.

“The combined graduation for three of the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County Problem Solving Courts – Adult Drug Court, ReEntry Court and Veterans Court - is a true testament to the benefit of diversionary programs and the positive effect it has on its participants and the community,” said the Honorable Sheila R. Tillerson Adams, Administrative Judge for Prince George’s County. “I would like to recognize the hard work of the graduates, presiding judges and Problem Solving Court team in making the programs a success.”

This year’s keynote speaker is Rev. Ralph Miller of Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The Circuit Court for Prince George's County Problem Solving Courts are comprised of four specialty courts: Adult Drug Court, Re-Entry Court, Veterans Court and Juvenile Drug Court. The Problem Solving Courts represent a major shift from the traditional court model. These courts focus on a collaborative, non-adversarial approach to judicial supervision of eligible offenders.  Through the leadership of a presiding judge, each court operates on a team premise to oversee each case through the implementation of a sanctions, incentives and rehabilitative program model.

In 2002, the Adult Drug Court program started and is presided over by the Honorable Nicholas E. Rattal. The Reentry Court program began in 2014 and is presided over by the Honorable Lawrence V. Hill, Jr. The Veterans Court program began in 2015 and is presided over by the Honorable Beverly J. Woodard.
